Project Overview

MILBoS (Maghfirah Islamic Leadership Boarding School) is an Islamic educational institution that needed an official website as a digital information hub for students, parents, prospective guardians, and the general public.

Previously, the MILBoS website was hit by a malware and virus attack that caused several pages or website access to redirect to online gambling sites. This not only disrupted the user experience, but also risked damaging the institution's reputation, data security, and website SEO performance.

ZidCloud assisted with investigation, malware removal, troubleshooting, security scanning, and infrastructure hardening to restore the website to a safe, stable, and faster state.

Challenge

The MILBoS website previously experienced serious security issues caused by malware and viruses that triggered unauthorized redirects to online gambling sites. This posed significant risks for an educational institution, as it could erode public trust, disrupt access to information, and negatively impact the school's digital reputation.

Key challenges identified:

Solution

ZidCloud provided comprehensive handling through a security recovery + infrastructure hardening approach. The primary focus was not only to clean the website of malware, but also to strengthen the security foundation to minimize the risk of similar attacks in the future.

Steps taken included removing suspicious files, reviewing the website structure, conducting security scans, reviewing hosting configurations, and recommending a migration to a more stable and secure hosting environment.

We also implemented Cloudflare as an additional protection layer and CDN to speed up website access. In addition, a Kaspersky scan was performed to help detect potential threats from files or the related environment.

Implementation Process

1. Security Audit & Initial Troubleshooting

The ZidCloud team performed an initial assessment to identify the root cause, redirect patterns, suspicious files, and potential security vulnerabilities on the website and hosting side.

2. Malware & Virus Scanning

The website and related files were examined to find malicious scripts, unrecognized files, and potential infections causing redirects to gambling sites.

3. Website Cleanup

Suspicious files were removed, website configurations were reviewed, and elements potentially serving as infection sources were fixed to restore normal website functionality.

4. Hosting & Infrastructure Recommendation

ZidCloud recommended migrating to a safer and more stable hosting environment, including improvements to infrastructure management so the website would not only recover but also be better prepared for future security risks.

5. Cloudflare Setup

Cloudflare was configured as an additional protection layer for DNS, CDN, caching, SSL, and basic security. With CDN enabled, website access became faster and more stable for visitors from various locations.

6. Security Hardening

Security was tightened across the website, admin access, file permissions, plugin/theme hygiene, SSL, DNS, and the website management workflow to ensure a safer development and maintenance process going forward.

7. Post-Recovery Monitoring

After the recovery process, the website was monitored to ensure no suspicious redirects remained, performance stayed stable, and users could access the website safely.

Result

After the remediation and security process was completed, the MILBoS website was successfully restored from malware infection and malicious redirects.
